Unfortunately, many Kansas City homes have been built with faulty or vulnerable siding and trim materials. The combination of poor builder installation, inadequate preventative maintenance (spray painting!), and a little moisture almost guarantee early failure of materials similar to Masonite, Abitibi, and Louisiana Pacific Smart Panel systems. When properly applied, James Hardie is an ideal replacement for failed wall systems due its durability and ease of maintenance. The “weather resistant barrier” and flashing system is one of the most important components in any siding system. When properly installed under new siding a  premium system provides a second layer of protection from leaks and moisture damage while enhancing the thermal characteristics (and insulation) of the existing wall. Poorly installed or “cheap” systems tend to do the opposite.
