Everyone knows, builder grade windows and doors can leave a lot to be desired.  They have inadequate (or absent) thermal characteristics, they are difficult (or impossible) to operate, and they require a lot of maintenance.  However, homeowners should be careful when replacing windows as a result of trim rot or a  water leak.  These problems are almost always the result of a problem from another area that needs to be addressed prior to new window installation (if a new window is even required).
